Custom Dirt & Hydroseed was founded at the end of 2016 who knew the Pacific Northwest landscape better than anyone, and believed there was a better, more affordable way to help homeowners and contractors get beautiful, lasting lawns.

We sprayed our first lawns in spring of 2017 and haven't stopped since. From small backyard installs in Bellingham to large-scale commercial erosion control projects along Skagit County hillsides, we've learned what works and what doesn't in our unique Northwest Washington climate.

How Hydroseeding Works

Hydroseeding combines grass seed, fertilizer, fibrous mulch, and water into a thick slurry that's sprayed evenly onto your prepared soil. The mulch mat retains moisture, protects seeds from wind and erosion, and creates a micro-greenhouse effect for fast germination.

Compared to sod, hydroseeding costs significantly less, covers uneven terrain better, and results in a lawn that's grown in place — meaning stronger roots and better long-term performance in your specific soil.
